“My depth of lighting experience gives me a unique advantage behind the camera, creating powerful visuals to get the story told.”

— Chris Sowden

Biography

I have worked in the TV and film industry for over 23 years. Starting out as an lighting electrician at Yorkshire TV (ITV Yorkshire). I worked my way through the department rising steadily to become a Gaffer in 2007.

In 2009 I became freelance. I started working on many HETV shows in the UK and across the globe, working as a Gaffer for multiple Directors of Photography.

After collaborating with many DOPs over the years on lighting to tell a story, I found I had a passion and talent for the camera too. My depth of lighting experience gave me a unique advantage here, helping to create powerful visuals to get the story told.

In recent years I have taken the next step and become a Director of Photography, working on 2nd units and also covering for main units. This has given me a platform to pursue my ambition and build my experience further in visual storytelling, working with cameras and Directors.

With my years of experience on both large and small scale productions I bring vast amount of knowledge, ideas and inspiration in telling the story through lights and camera.

Alongside all of this, I use my strong organisation and leadership skills and problem solving to assist with production, keeping the project on time and on budget.
